Itinerary
Day 1
Sitka / Embark

Arrive in Sitka, Alaska, situated on the western coast of Baranof Island and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Take a walk in Sitka National Historical Park, where Tlingit and Haida totem poles tower over coastal trails. Visit the Alaska Raptor Center for an up-close look at Alaska’s birds of prey.

Day 2
Baranof or Chichagof Islands

Explore the breathtaking bays of Baranof or Chichagof Islands, both part of the ancient Tongass National Forest. Chichagof Island harbors one of the highest concentrations of brown bears in the world, and both islands are home to diverse wildlife. Kayak or paddleboard along rugged coastlines, and in the afternoon, go hiking through the temperate rain forest, listening for bald eagles calling out from the tops of towering spruce and hemlock trees.

Day 3
Icy Strait / Inian Islands

Spend today searching for wildlife in these rich waters where the Pacific Ocean meets the Inside Passage. Options include a Zodiac cruising among the Inian Islands, where an abundance of Steller sea Lions reside, kayaking in the outer waters of Glacier Bay, or hiking in lush temperate rainforest.

Day 4
Haines

Known as the “adventure capital of Alaska,” Haines is situated on a scenic peninsula between the Chilkoot and Chilkat Rivers. Hike one of the many world-class trails in the area, enjoy an optional flightseeing tour over Glacier Bay National Park (must pre-book, weather dependent), or cycle along the edge of a glacial lake. Or visit the ancient Tlingit village of Klukwan and enjoy a traditional dance and cultural performance before setting off on a rafting excursion, keeping an eye out for bald eagles, bears, and moose as you float through the spectacular Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.

Day 5
Tracy or Endicott Arm, Fords Terror Wilderness

Wake up in Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm, part of the Tracy Arm–Fords Terror Wilderness. Cruise through this glacially carved fjord, then set out to explore by expedition landing craft. View the soaring Dawes or South Sawyer Glacier up close—and keep an eye out for the dramatic sight of huge slabs of ice breaking off and crashing into the water below. If conditions permit, paddle a kayak below the steep walls of the fjord. Celebrate your voyage with a farewell dinner on board.

Day 6
Juneau / Disembark

Disembark in downtown Juneau and transfer to the airport for flights home.

National Geographic Global Explorers:
Developed in conjunction with National Geographic Education, this unique program will offer kids and teens the opportunity to choose cool activities—from earning a Zodiac “driver’s license” to recording wildlife sightings in their Field Notebook—all designed to help them develop what National Geographic Education defines as the attitudes, skills, and knowledge of an explorer. They’ll take part in all kinds of cool activities—like learning about glaciers by making ice cream sundaes, or using glacial ice to paint water colors. They will be encouraged to use their creativity—with photos, videos, music, writing, drawing and more, to tell stories about all they’ll see and do.

Lindblad-National Geographic Certified Photo Instructor:
On all departures, a certified photo instructor will be at your side and at your service to inspire and assist you. Take advantage of talks, presentations, slideshows and “laptop gallery” sharing events. All skill and interest levels are welcome; the instructors can meet you wherever you are on your journey. All you need to participate is a camera—point-and-shoot, smartphone, DSLR, whatever—and a sense of adventure. And you’re sure to return home with amazing photos.

Optional Pre- or Post-Trip Extension: Denali National Park
Discover the wildness that lives at the heart of Alaska; add an inland exploration of Denali National Park to your coastal expedition. With the idyllic North Face Lodge as your base camp, you’ll enjoy special access. Guests partaking in this extension must sign a participant agreement. 6 Days. A $550 per person initial deposit is required; a second deposit in the amount of 60% of the cost of the extension is due 120 days or more, prior to the departure. Final payment is due 90 days prior to departure for expedition.
2020 Double Occupancy from $6,690 per person
2020 Single Occupancy from $9,190

Optional Pre- or Post-Trip Extension: Canadian Rockies and Banff Heli-Hiking
Experience hiking in British Columbia, Canada in the most epic way. Fly high above the treeline and beyond your wildest dreams- deep into the wilderness to places so remote they would take days to reach with a backpack. The stunning views seen from the helicopter and while you are hiking will take your breath away. 7 Days.
