Maria attributes her love of discovering new places and cultures to the Weekly Readers she devoured in elementary school. She began her first travel bucket list in the 3rd grade, when she read an article about the Galapagos giant tortoise. She checked off the Galapagos Islands, and many other ‘must-see’ locations, during a two-month, multi-country trek through Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Spain. Favorite adventures include sleeping in a capsule hotel in Tokyo, staying in a treehouse on a permaculture farm in Costa Rica, exploring the Ingapirca ruins in Ecuador, swimming with sea lions in the Galapagos Islands, snorkeling with Bottlenose dolphins and sea turtles in Hawaii, and enjoying the culinary delights of La Boqueria in Barcelona. A Seattle native, Maria lived in Atlanta, Brooklyn, and Boise before returning “home” after a 25-year absence. In her spare time, Maria loves road trips, reading, writing, karaoke, catching up with international pen pals, and practicing the hands she’s learned as a calligraphy guild member.
