Planning a trip to Machu Picchu
Today thousands of visitors are flocking to the mountainside mystery in Peru that remained hidden from the rest of the world for many years. There are different ways to reach Machu Picchu, but the best way to see everything that Machu Picchu has to offer is by traveling with a tour and expedition company.
When planning your trip to Machu Picchu you will need to give some thought to whether you want to make it a day trip or stay overnight. Many tour and expedition companies offer both options for tourists traveling to Machu Picchu.
An overnight stay to Machu Picchu will allow you to stay near the entrance to Machu Picchu, or in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes, located approximately five miles from the ruins of Machu Picchu.
Staying overnight at Machu Picchu will ensure that you have time to wander around the ruins, even after the majority of other tourists have left for the day. You can also pamper yourself by soaking in the thermal baths offered at Aguas Calientes.
If your time in the area of Machu Picchu is limited, then you will want to make sure that you visit all the highlights during your day trip.
You will also need to give some thought as to when would be the best time to visit Machu Picchu. The high season runs from June through early September. This is winter in the area, which means the weather is drier.
If you want to take advantage of price breaks, however, be sure to plan your visit during summer, which runs from November through March. This is the rainy season, and prices are usually lower. A trip to Machu Picchu in the autumn months will allow you to enjoy nearly perfect weather.
