Board the vessel in Bagan after and included flight from Yangon and enjoy a delicious lunch. Later, disembark for guided exploration of this ancient city and witness an unforgettable sunset over the Bagan plain.
Start your day experiencing the sights and sounds of Bagan. Visit the gilded Shwezigon Pagoda, or take an optional excursion into Old Bagan by horse cart or bicycle. In the afternoon, set sail towards Salay to visit the Wooden Monastery and an impressive 20ft Buddha made of straw lacquer.
Visit the port town of Magwe and its famous Myathalon Pagoda, devotees come from miles around to join in religious festivals that take place here. Continue to Min Hla for a late afternoon visit to its fort that was the site of a great battle during the second Anglo-Burmese War.
Enjoy a Longyi tying and Thanakha wearing demonstration on the Observation Deck. In the afternoon, depart by bus to the ancient city of Sri Ksetra (‘Fabulous City’) with its unique cylindrical shaped stone stupas. During the 5th – 9th centuries, this city flourished during the rule of the Phyu. Pyay hit its stride in the 1890’s as a booming trade town, and there is still much activity in and around the docks today. Enjoy a city tour, visit the impressive Shwe-san-daw Pagoda and the imposing 10-story Sitting Buddha watching over this important site.
Set out by bus on a morning excursion to Shwe Taung town and visit Shwe Myat Mhan Pagoda to see the only ‘bespectacled’ Buddha in Myanmar (thought to have curing powers). On the way back, visit a local sweets confectioner and a bamboo shoot pickle maker. Later, return to the boat and spend the afternoon relaxing on board and taking in the scenery as you continue on your journey.
Disembark at the small port of Zalon. Ride a tuk tuk along its main street lined with colonial-style wooden houses and stunning large tropical gardens. Visit the Pyi Taw Pyan Pagoda. Continue to another less-visited town called Danuphyu where General Maha Bandula led defensive against the British troops during the Anglo-Burmese War.
Spend the morning relaxing on the deck as you make your way to Yangon. You may choose an optional shopping excursion in Yangon or a heritage tour.
