Area: Cusco, PeruOverview: Formerly the colonial San Antonio Abad seminary, the Hotel Monasterio was built more than 300 years ago. This unique hotel museum is an architectural treasure built on Inca foundations with a beautiful chapel adorned with extraordinary gold ornaments.
Guests can enjoy the hotel’s three lovely restaurants: The Illary Restaurant which serves lunch and dinner; El Tupay Restaurant, location for the well-known buffet breakfast and Saturday Inca dinners; and the Lobby Bar which boasts a large variety of the best quality liquors, cocktails and refreshments.
The Hotel Monasterio is only a ten-minute drive from the airport and just two blocks from the Plaza de Armas, Cusco's central square where the cathedral and most important museums are located. Rating: ***** Number of Rooms: 127 Room Descriptions: The original architecture and design of the Monasterio has not been significantly altered, and thus the rooms do reflect their origins as a home for Jesuit seminarians. There are no 2 rooms alike and they all vary in size and format. Additionally, the hotel has counteracted the sickness altitude problem introducing the oxygen supplementation system in most of the rooms.
The decoration and furnishings of the rooms combine the best of modern and traditional Spanish colonial style, many of them with charming views of the city or the colorful rooftops of Cusco. All rooms are equipped with telephone (with an extension in the bathroom), central heating, mini-bar, personal in-room electronic safe, cable TV, fire detectors, hairdryer, and superb furniture.
