Traveling to amazing wildlife and cultural destinations on the Silver Explorer can be a bit like having your cake and eating it too, as this beautifully remodeled ship offers passengers the opportunity to travel to remote, breathtaking regions while enjoying the amenities and exceptional cuisine of a land-locked, five star hotel. And cake is something there is a lot of on this ship, as well as fine wine, exquisite entrees and a huge selection of other types of desserts. Plus, the cocktails and wine are all included in the cabin fare. Fine dining is the centerpiece of the Silver Explorer's onboard experience.
Along with the comfort of the ship, the Silver Explorer also provides an up close and personal experience of the destination you're visiting. During days at sea, lectures are offered by knowledgeable and entertaining experts. On shore, the expedition staff is competent, helpful and very friendly. Zodiac landings are efficient and easily managed, clearly explained for those who are new to zodiacs. This ship may have a lighter education program onboard than some of the other ships, yet she will provide you with exciting shore visits and a fantastic experience of the region.
Because I've worked in Fine Dining and Destination Management, I understand what luxury travelers are looking for. I explored Central America in September of 2008 on the Silver Explorer, traveling from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Acapulco, Mexico via the Panama Canal.
On my voyage, the Silver Explorer received very high marks, especially for food and service, which are outstanding featuring Relais & Chateaux award-winning chefs and Continental-style service. The sommelier is very knowledgeable and took note of my special favorites. This ship, formerly known as the World Discoverer, has been remodeled in a contemporary style offering attractive furnishings, spacious cabins and elegantly appointed public areas. The ship has a spa, two Jacuzzi, a gym and an outdoor dining area. Entertainment in the lounge every night is something you won't find on any of the other ships. Also the suites on Deck 5 have a butler who is at the beck and call of those few guests 24/7.
If traveling in a comfortable environment with expert service and keen attention to detail is important to you, I highly recommend the Silver Explorer as your home away from home in the Arctic or Antarctica.
